A cartoonist wears a lot of hats: writer, illustrator, storyteller, humorist, commentator, provocateur. I want my work to inspire people to care about whatever needs caring about in this world: the plight of animals, the threat of climate change, the dangers of nationalism and demagoguery, to name a few. Obviously, that’s a heavy weight for a cartoon to bear but that is why cartoons can be so effective: their messages are leavened with laughter. If we lose the ability to poke fun at our own foibles, we’ll be doomed.
